For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

Music has been a part of my life since I can remember. I have my parents to thank for that! I'd be honored to be part of your musical journey. Performances may come and go, but music is a gift that will stay with you forever! I've been playing trumpet and piano since I was 8, and have taught and played professionally for nearly twenty years, adding various qualifications, certifications, skills, and experiences to my repertoire along the way. Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on. Sometimes if I have a student that likes Pink Floyd or Eric Clapton, for instance, I will do my best to come up with a simplified version of a particular song using good ole staff paper. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Technique is certainly at the centerpiece of my teaching, for both voice and piano. You are your instrument, and training your body to produce music easily and efficiently is the primary goal. But I by no means think Classical music is the only genre of music a student should study. Both my voice and piano students are pushed to explore their musical boundaries, and learn how to play and sing a large variety of styles, from rock, to pop, jazz, and theatre. Read More

I teach the student as much as they can absorb while making sure they understand the material.I have never run out of material to teach.I teach proper technique and about scales because every song written is based on scales.I also work on songs with the student at the same time so they can see and understand how the songs and scales are used together. After the basics are understood we move on to songs the student wants to learn.I can also tailor lessons to a students wants or needs if desired.I have been doing this quite a while and understand what works. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. My philosophy is that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Encouraging my students accomplishments helps fuel the desire to progress and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires my student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Music did not provide the level of intellectual stimulation needed. So, I chose to obtain a degree in School Psychology, to satisfy intellectual curiousity and continue with music integrating the two where possible. Now retired from psychology, teaching music allows me to combine psychology skills and music to focus on efficient learning techniques for others. I have professional experience in delivering psychological service and music instructionto the developmental spectrum. Integrating these two passions affords wonderful opportunities todevelop and applycreative ideas to help others achieve goals in learning to play stringed instruments more efficiently than they would otherwise.
