I have a wide range of experience in teaching music. I have taught over a dozen students through my personal music studio at Florida State University, and many of them have gone on to win auditions at the university level. I have taught beginners solid fundamental skills and I have taught advanced students to refine their musicianship and their technique. Much of my experience comes from the classroom: I completed my student teaching at the Florida State University Schools, and I taught five classes full time. Read More

I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More

Lifetime musician with 10 years of teaching experience. I studied music performance at the University of South Florida, where I focused on flute as my primary instrument. I have also studied piano, strings, voice for over 2 decades. I have learned under many great music instructors, various members of the Florida Orchestra and also a direct student of Dr. Suzuki himself. Aside from teaching experience, I have also performed in small chamber ensembles professionally for events such as weddings, charities, and live music nights at restaurant and am also involved in a few community volunteer ensembles. For beginner students, I start with Hal Leonard's "Essential Elements for Strings" Book 1. This book is not only great for learning the fundamentals of the instrument (such as the names of the parts of the instrument, how to hold the instrument, etc.) but it also the best book I have found to teach beginning students how to read music on the violin and viola. For more advanced students, I like to stick with a formula of three things: scales (two-three octaves), an etude (a piece used to focus on a specific technique), and solo repertoire. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. I begin with developing sheet music literacy in my students right off the bat if they have no experience in reading music. I believe music literacy is one of the most important aspects of learning an instrument. I've always said, "not being able to read sheet music is like trying to be a writer who can't read, it makes no sense". I also begin with teaching proper form. Meaning how to hold the instrument and how to use proper technique. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin

I have found some terrific methods that get students playing VIOLIN well right away and building up their muscles and endurance. For the first 4 books students get to play along with CDs so their intonation is honed; they learn to "keep up with others playing" and they are encouraged to stick with it through each piece. Later, the harder things like reading music notation, scales, vibrato and the positions are added. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
