I began teaching in 2015 as a percussion mentor at an elementary school while in college. Upon graduation, I joined a community ensemble and taught masterclasses to community members on a variety of topics such as rhythm, musical interpretation, and stick control. Music lessons can be very boring if there is not the right balance of things taught. I always make sure that each lesson incorporates a mixture of technical work specific to the clarinet, scales, note and rhythm reading, basic clarinet repertoire, well known pieces, unknown pieces and sight reading. I began teaching voice lessons my senior year of high school. When I got to college I began work as a show choir director in Hartford, CT. I have learned so much from my students. I have learned to teach in a way that students of all ages will understand. An example of this is teaching a young student how to use their head voice when singing high notes. This is important because a student can damage their vocal cords if they use chest voice high up in the scale. Read More
