For entry level percussionists, I start on a practice pad with the basic drum rudiments (rolls, paradiddles, flams, etc.). After learning these rudiments, I will help the student identify these techniques in their favorite songs, which we will then learn to play together. After successfully performing songs in several styles, I will task the student with creating their own groove, which we can then turn into a full song. I began teaching guitar a little bit in high school. Then after college began teaching more and more and my experience grew. While obtaining my master's my focus was on different, unique strategies of teaching. I've taught roughly the ages from 5 up to late 60s. Many of these students I've directed in recitals as solo students or students in a group. I was born in New Bedford, MA to a musical family. I began piano study at age six and eventually decided to seek a degree in music, with an emphasis in piano performance. My love for the instrument is as a teacher, and it is that love for teaching that brought me to be a classroom teacher of general music for ten years. For violin, viola, and cello lessons I typically use a few different method books and handout sheets for the first few lessons, and then switch to using Suzuki books once the basic concepts have been mastered. I began teaching in 2010 as a private lesson instructor. In 2016, I began working for a teaching school in New York City. I'm now based in Northeastern Pennsylvania and looking to cultivate a community of musicians through a shared love of the craft.
