All students will always have at least one piece that they have chosen to work on to keep interest while building skills. For adults I like to use Alfred's Basic Adult All-In-One Course. This has a site that can be accessed at home for extra help and accompaniments to play the songs learned. I add technique to adults to keep the fingers moving such as Hanon and Czerny. Adults usually know what they are interested in learning and I point their instruction towards their personal goals. Read More

I can teach the fundamentals of bass playing and advanced technique, music theory, improvisation, sight reading, and music history. You will learn not only how to play the instrument proficiently, you will learn how the bass functions musically in a group as well. I establish the student's level, find out what their goals are and then start learning music. I watch their technique and listen to their sound and guide them as we go. Read More

My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. My approach to teaching is very dependent on the student. From matching energy levels to providing different teaching techniques based on the student's learning style, from the 75+ students of varying learning types and ages I have taught over the years, I have learned how to adapt to each student's needs and execute varying teaching techniques effectively. My only requirement in my studio is that my students practice and come to their lessons prepared. Read More

Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. At Berklee College of Music, I worked with young children during our city's Beantown Jazz fest to help introduce them to new instruments. Read More

Music and teaching it to others has been my life's work and passion. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014.
