For beginning students, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method Flute Book by A. C. Peterson. Once the student has progressed and has managed to grasp fundamentals, we can proceed to the next volumes within the same series. For adults, I typically do my best to see what they are interested, and will guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons intriguing. I will typically assign an etude per week to my more advanced students. Read More

In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach. Read More

Teaching can also be learning, because there is a "two-way street" of communication between the student and the teacher as each collaborate on and develop the learning process. I get rewards for being a major part of that process. Additionally, nothing is more gratifying than to see one's student find their passion and exceed expectations. My goal is to encourage my students to enhance their creativity, musicality, and on a broader level, to help them excel at their personal and professional goals as potent and responsible citizens of our world community. There are as many different teaching styles as there are students. Everyone learns differently, at their own pace. I love private lessons because you can get to know the student and their learning style, and tailor the material to suit them. Its my job to motivate and help them find their own voice as a player. I love doing that! Read More

Based on my first meeting get acquainted sessions with my students, I decide what approach to take with each person. As everyone is different, I adapt my teaching to their particular personality and needs. I have a four (4) tiered approach to my lessons - there is technique development, theory, ear-training and improvisation through learning chord sets and songs in every key PLUS, of course, the playing of music. I have a very comprehensive library where a student can music of any style to supplement his or her foundational music development. Read More
