I take a very kinesthetic approach to teaching. I believe that no matter the level or style, evey singer benefits from understanding the way their vocal anatomy functions, and how to utilize it in a healthy way. Vocal longevity is a very high priority in my studio, as is having a good time. I am a firm believer that a teacher who does not help a student fall in love with their art has not done their job. For young children I usually use the Suzuki method books for song selection and through those we can focus on the basic fundamentals of positioning and technical development. It is easy to see what needs to be addressed through those first few songs and we can go from there. For older children and adults we can select from a wider variety with input from the student and we can work on whatever technical issues arise based on the level of the student. Read More

I also use Alfreds all in o e adult method along with a their greatest hits book to add more repetitive . All the series I use come with a cd of prerecorded tracks to play along with so its like youre playing with the band . All my students use a cd player as well. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I started teaching clarinet privately in 2012 during my undergraduate career and have been teaching students consistently ever since. I often encourage my students to bring in music that they would like to learn because working on music that you are inspired by and excited about encourages practicing (the same goes for me too!). I encourage students to enter as many performance opportunities as they can, especially since I am an avid performer myself, and am looking to expand my studio so that I can create student recitals where my students will be able to share their music and perform for each other. My teaching experience dates back to my time in college as I spent many hours working with high-school marching bands and giving individual lessons on drum set and battery percussion. Once I moved to Los Angeles, the focus of my teaching switched to private lessons in students homes and rented studio spaces. After graduating from the Los Angeles College of Music, I was asked back as a substitute to teach their sight reading classes, to assist in styles classes such as Rock and Jazz, and as an assistant running the console in their "Recording for Musicians" class. I provided group drum lessons to students ranging from elementary to senior high school age with a total of 40 lessons each week, at 10 different schools to over 100 students! While in this role, I also coordinated ensembles and concert bands and also established a music program at a juvenile detention centre. Read More
