Once the students reach a certain level, for example when they finish the level 3a of Piano Adventure, I start to add Hanon, Czerny, and Sonatina in turn, and prepare them to play in competition. I graduated from Gordon college in 2008 with a degree in music education and taught K-8 grade for several years, which included directing children's choirs, teaching private lessons, and teaching general music to many ages. As a teenager I began teaching young kids very introductory acoustic guitar methods. Later on in college, my music curriculum mandated teaching lessons on the primary instrument while receiving feedback from faculty and attending teaching workshops. I have participated in master classes with Eliot Fisk and Roland Dyens, and have attended master classes with world-famous flamenco, jazz, fusion, and classical guitar players. I structure lessons to be as fun as possible while also helping students grow musically. For beginner students, I typically start by teaching from Flute 101: Mastering the Basics by Phyllis Avidan Louke and Patricia George. If the student is in a band or orchestra program, I make sure to incorporate any method books or music being taught in that program into my lessons as well. I also use workbooks and games to teach beginning music theory and karate belt levels to encourage younger students to learn their scales. Read More
