I have been continuously employed as a professional trumpet player since the age of 15. Currently, I hold positions as principal trumpet with the state philharmonic orchestra of Sonora, Mexico; second trumpet with the Sierra Vista Symphony; third trumpet with the Tucson Pops Orchestra, substitute/extra with the Phoenix Symphony and Tucson Symphony Orchestra. My teachers have included principal trumpeters of the Cleveland Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. For piano students, I start with the Alfred or Bastien method series depending on age, and add lead sheet reading and Hanon exercises as well. I tailor lessons to the student, so if the student is interested in playing contemporary music, we work mainly on that. For voice, I assess the students range, current ability, and goals, and then we focus on vocal exercises that will help them improve their technique and on repertoire that interests them. Read More

I have used Hal Leonard and Bastien. If the parent has a older method book they wish to use I start there and fill in as I see needed. I encourage a slow start to get all the basics understood, then progress at the student's own pace and interests. Handouts and charts are supplemented as most students can't afford all the music books requested in a series. If a student feels frustrated then a short walk from piano to the other side of the room shaking out the arms and fingers gets us back on track. Read More
