I try to find out what their musical interests are and encourage them to play tunes that they like, or even improvise tunes. Scales, etc. all come in time. Again, I try to inspire by example. I've been told many times that my love of music and the trumpet is contagious. You either catch the (music) disease or you don't! I just try to provide ample opportunity to catch it. Read More

I have been teaching violin for over 10 years. Growing up in a family of musicians meant that I was always helping out in the music school run by my parents; as a violin teacher, ensemble coach and a practice supervisor. I began my own class of students in London, and also assisted my own professor in his teaching. I like to build up a strong technique on the instrument with my students, and apply this to the repertoire that they are working on. Read More

Music lessons are also a great way to teach personal responsibility and the importance of preparation. I have a bachelors and masters degree in classical piano from Chapman University in Orange County and University of Southern California. Read More

My teaching style is centered on the intersection between neuroscience and music. I love exploring how the brain works and how we can take advantage of that to make our practice as effective as possible. For example, did you know that a lot of the absorbing information that your brain does happens while youre sleeping? Or that a technique called random practice is more effective than blocked practice? In addition to supplementing my teaching with my neuroscience degree (in progress), I also think that it is my job as a teacher to make motivation and inspiration as easy as possible for the student.
