For young beginner students, I start teaching with Book 1 of Accent on Achievement, by John O'Reilly and Mark Williams. As we advance, we will move on to Book 2. I have selected this book because I believe it introduces musical concepts in an easy to understand way, and it uses a fundamental selection of traditional and classical pieces. All students learn at their own pace. I will spend a lot of time getting to know the student as a learner and as a human so that I can be of better service to them. I love having my students keep a journal of their lessons so that they may catalogue their progress as they have more and more lesson. I teach out of my home studio in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as well as through Zoom to students worldwide. I have both a Master's and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I was concertmaster of the Conservatory Orchestra and the recipient of the full-ride Sergei Barsukov Violin Scholarship. There are hormonal, physical, and emotional changes in those early teen years that respond well to the lyrics and stories told in many contemporary songs.
