I began teaching piano in high school and continued into my college years. I then spent the next decade touring in bands and recording in some of the top studios in Los Angeles. I have worked with some of the best in the business including Rick Rubin, John Shanks, and Jason Falkner, just to name a few. These experiences have given me the knowledge of being a musician in the real world, which I try and impart to my students. Read More

I have been a teacher for the last 7 years: having worked at after-school programs, I have learned how to understand the psychology involved in teaching and how to get students motivated but sparkling their curiosity based on their personal experiences. I encourage students to practice on a consistent basis for as much time as they can, but most importantly, I encourage them to listen. The art of listening is much understated in music education at times and is really what made a difference in my playing, so I like to include listening exercises that go along with technique in order for the student to develop a well-crafted musicianship. Instruments: Piano Drums
My teaching experience dates back to when I was a student at the Los Angeles High School for the Arts. While pursuing my own education I also had five private drum students ranging from the ages of 7-15. I am fortunate enough to have learned a great deal about teaching all different ages from my father, who has been a private guitar teacher for over 35 years. During my time at Berklee College of Music, I taught group clinics and while our tour with the Karen Lovely Band I mentored mentally handicapped music students in the Netherlands with a group called United By Music. Nothing is better than seeing consistent progression of my students, while seeing their passion for music develop simultaneously. Every student has a different path and journey to learning their instrument, and it is my job to help guide them down that new path, something that is greatly rewarding for both parties. Instilling confidence into students is something I absolutely always strive to do day in and day out, as providing a positive, supportive, and patient environment is something that greatly benefits students. I am a working performer and singer in multiple genres, including fully-staged professional musical theatre productions, choral concerts, choir directing, event solos, and gigging with bands. I recently played Morticia in the Addams Family Musical, produced a full-length classical music concert with a concert pianist, violinist and guitarist; performed at Davies Hall in San Francisco for a National Geographic symphony world premiere, and appeared as a musician on an Old Navy commercial. My teaching style is generally laid back. I believe that a student will only work as hard as they want to, and I have little control over that. I focus more on finding out what will make the student want to work hard, rather than forcing them to study something that does not interest them. It's all about getting the student to have a positive musical experience. That being said, I do my best to hold my students accountable, but try to do so in an encouraging way vs. a nagging and controlling way. Read More
