I cater every lesson to the individual, but I highly emphasize the use of exercises for everyone. For piano students, I love using the Dozen - A - Day books because they include many different 5-finger exercises that are really helpful in warming the fingers. I also will bring in the use of scales and chords, no matter what we're learning, so that students can understand playing music in any key. Read More

Having studied under a number of very different teachers, I have learned that motivation to practice comes and goes, but passion is what builds a lasting foundation for musicianship. Because we can all be passionate about different aspects of the same subject, my teaching philosophy is that each student should be able to experience being passionate about music, whether their personality is ‘forte’ or ‘pianissimo.’ I am blessed to be a teacher that loves teaching, and I want to convey that to my students by the way that I teach. I always aim to create an environment that leads students to discover their own passion for music! Setting reachable goals every lesson helps a student feel like they are in control of their own success and builds their motivation to succeed. I believe it is important that the student learn to recognize their own accomplishments so that as they are practicing, they can begin to become the best judges of their own progress and get the most out of their lessons. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
