I have been teaching oof and on for the last 20 years. I have been playing professionally for the last 27 years. I played in my high school marching band and in the symphonic orchestra. I studied under Tony Casselli and Tom Tehdran. I've been in a variety of bands from dinner/oldies bands to rock. My current studio has two drum sets and a DW practice pad set. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My teaching method and strategy is Applied Teaching, with a standard system of scales, etudes, and pieces from the cello literature. I am not a Suzuki instructor, but am always happy to refer a student to a Suzuki teacher. However, it is certainly possible to teach any student in either Suzuki or Applied Teaching, or both. For beginning students, we will spend a good amount of the first few lessons in developing core fundamentals. Once we have a solid foundation, I will start to add in some exercises. I work out of many books to expose my students to different methods of playing. For more advanced students, I will work with them on developing more characteristic sounds. Since graduating with a degree in music from UNC-G, I have been active as a professional musician, including performances with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Piedmont Triad Wind Symphony, the North Carolina Brass Band, the Shirelles, the Sammy Kaye Big Band, Susan Ray, Frank Fontaine, Jim Cole, and numerous rock and jazz groups, churches, and musical theater organizations.
