Overview:
Hi everyone! I have been involved in performing and recording music my entire life, primarily as drummer and percussionist, but also as composer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist. After eighteen years as director of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, I am devoting myself full time to music creation and private music instruction. While I have extensive experience teaching music to individuals with disabilities, and won awards for my success in doing so, I have taught many others along the way, from children to adults. I have a comfortable home teaching studio with a beautiful vintage drumset, a marimba, various percussion, and too many other instruments to list. I also have a comfortable waiting area for parents and/ or siblings (where you can hear the lesson in session, if you wish), as well as comfortable porch seating for nice days.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music full-time for eighteen years. Primarily, I founded and led the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble (ECPE), a truly unique and acclaimed group. Our focus was on active music-making, performance, and recording. The group made three professional recordings, performed widely, and challenged audience expectations everywhere they did. Privately, I have taught drumming to many individuals, from young students just starting out, to professional musicians looking to add drums to their instrumental repertoire, to people needing help overcoming sensory issues. I believe that music, and drumming in particular, is inherently therapeutic, and can benefit everyone!
METHODS USED
My philosophy is that everyone benefits from music instruction, especially percussion. No matter whether one's goal is to be a professional musician, or one simply wants to try something new, almost everyone enjoys the act of music-making! Having said that, every individual is unique, and I work with each person to determine what works best for his or her desires and abilities. While one student may dive right into rudiments and reading, another may benefit best from relaxed, organic, and gradual activities that lead to a greater comfort with the learning experience. Every student is different, and every student will receive instruction tailored for his or her needs.
LESSON STYLE
Music is, and should be fun! It is also hard work, but when done right, these two go hand in hand. No one should leave a lesson feeling discouraged, personally or musically. This is why I work hard to understand what each individual student's goals are, and quickly assess how he or she may achieve those goals. Additionally, not every student learns the same way, and I strive to ascertain and respond to each individual's needs. I am laid back, but I am not without expectation: each student will progress at a pace that is right for him or her.

We have been very pleased with Aaron thus far. He is patient and respectful with my son, yet has a good way of redirecting him to keep him focused on learning when he gets started talking (he's 6--has lots to say!). He is motivating and good at pacing learning to keep my son excited and engaged. His experience is evident--very good teacher.

My daughter, Valarie is one of the original members of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble under the guidance of Aaron. He patiently worked with Valarie as well as the other five members individually and as a group to produce music that has been shared and enjoyed locally as well as nationally. He has the ability to seek out the strengths of each student while building confidence. Through his teachings, not only had Valarie learned how to produce and enjoy music, but also responsibility and so many life skills for everyday living.

We met Aaron 12 years ago when our son, Jonathan began at the Enrichment Center. Jonathan had been taking music lesson for 8 years, but had never played with a group. Aaron taught him how to play with a group. But let me tell you about the group – the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble (ECPE). The ECPE consists of 6 individuals with differing abilities. Aaron had a creative system that he used to teach music to those who could not read music. With the God given talents and abilities that the ECPE had, Aaron was able to create a unique genre of music. Aaron’s gentle hard working nature enabled the group to produce several CDs, perform at numerous locations throughout Forsyth County as well as in various parts of North Carolina, and perform at several venues in New York.

Aaron is one of the best music instructors we've ever known. Our son started taking violin and fiddle lessons at age 2-1/2 (he's had four instructors), he then added piano and subsequently drums when he was 8 years old (he's now 9) so we've had a lot of experience with different teachers. Aaron has the patience of Job and an incredibly calm demeanor that put our son at ease immediately. He continually gives positive feedback, yet has a knack for gently correcting students' technique or redirecting when needed. He's great at reading his students' body language and can sense when they are ready to move forward, feeling overwhelmed, needing a bit of extra instruction, or simply needing to switch gears. If there's any doubt, he does a great job checking in with them. He also taught my son music theory as a separate class and has a unique, hands-on approach that kept him interested, rather than just doing drills and dry reading in workbooks. I guess the best compliment we can give is that my husband enjoyed the few times that he could take my son to lessons so much that he decided to take lessons from Aaron as well! From a child's perspective, when I asked our son what he liked about taking classes from Aaron, he said, "He's really kind. He doesn't get mad or frustrated when you mess up. He's just really a nice guy."

I learned so much from my time taking drum lessons with Aaron. He’s so incredibly smart, intuitive, enthusiastic, and passionate about music. Aaron was patient with my learning style and physical limitations and creates a safe and comfortable space to create and learn. I highly recommend him for students of all ages and abilities.

Best Teacher! Aaron was my drums teacher for two years when i was in Winston-Salem, NC. I was a beginner when i started my classes with him and was very happy to had him as my teacher. He was so friendly and explained all the concepts very clearly. The material he shared after every class was perfect and helped me a lot to improve myself.
