I try to keep the student as interested as possible, some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's All-in-one Piano Course books. These books combine repertoire and theory, thereby cutting down on the number of books a new student needs to purchase. I use a variety of materials for voice students. I may ask that my voice students purchase books of repertoire that contain songs useful for building on their strengths and working on their weaknesses. However, I also have an extensive music library in my home studio. Read More

The beginning students always start in a book, which is usually John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play", or for the older students, "Bastien's Book for Older Beginners." As they move along, the students often have an idea of what they want to play, and often bring me music, especially the adolescents. I can determine more upon working with the student over time. I definitely customize my lessons for each student, and don't compare one to the other. Some of them have been my students from early childhood to high school graduation. Read More

My husband is in the Air Force so I have had the opportunity to teach students all over the country for over 15 years. I like using the Faber books so that the students learn their notes, theory, and all aspects of music. Students stay motivated because I meet as a group to play for each other and have small recitals. They of course have the option to participate in these activities. Read More

I am a creative teacher that looks and listens to the individual to help them to master the musicianship to play their instrument with the best sound and learn and apply the style of music being studied. From my yoga training I apply ideas of right alignment that help the student to play ergronomically correct. From my Suzuki training, I apply the principles of beautiful sound and learning both by ear and with music. Read More
