While doing this, I will have the student pick a song they like, whether it be pop, country, jazz, classical, and begin to learn it by ear to begin to develop solid aural recognition. I was involved in the music program in my church as a teenager singing in the youth choir and playing in the handbell choir. Most of my students have been younger and really craved the fundamentals of drumming I have the most experience teaching, which has honed my skills as a teacher to provide the foundation for more intermediate and advanced learning. What I believe makes me a comprehensive teacher is the fact that I myself have never stopped learning new things.
