My first experiences with music began in the car, listening to the hits of 60s and 70s as my parents drove me around. I quickly realized music was going to be an important part of my life and begged my parents to get me a saxophone. By the time I was 10, I was performing music regularly for large audiences and loving every second of it. Then I turned 14 and picked up a guitar; Read More

I began teaching while I was in High School and I would teach the younger students who were freshman and sophomores the tenor saxophone. Once I went to Eastman, I taught several people throughout the course of the four years there. I beleive that, particulalry when teaching the saxophone and flute, a mix of classical fundamental technique is very important as well as incorporating the jazz or rock repertoire. I feel that my skills as a music therapist can be very unique particularly because I can really attend to the needs of the student and adapt the music and lesson accordingly. Read More

I currently instruct over fifty students, in addition to my pre-k music classes of which I have over 100 students. Read More

The basis of my teaching style is transparency. My aim is to be as clear as possible about what I expect from my students, and how they can improve. I believe great technique is the proper foundation for any musician, and I will always give the students exercises along with songs that will help my students to develop proper technique. Most of all, I try to make sure that my students have fun. Music is supposed to be fun, so maintaining a sense of humor is a good thing in my opinion. Read More

I try to give each student an idea whats coming next, every few lessons or so, while practicing what their on currently. This idea is not for every student so it is a selective process I use with the brightest ones, or fast learners and good practicers. When I see a student really start to play well I gain confidence in my teaching style...but when needed I can dial it back a notch or two. My teaching experience goes back to my school days, when I began teaching my junior students. After teaching guitar for 8 years, I got to meet many students with different goals and skill levels. My students are always encouraged to play in a band, which help them to grow quickly as a musician. I believe sharing your musical knowledge is probably the best occupation anyone can have. The more students enjoys the guitar lesson the more input a students gives, which is vital to learn guitar techniques and skills. Read More
