In my teaching method, I am creating a custom plan for every single student. With beginner students, I am starting from the fundamentals and using books: Essential Elements, Suzuki Book 12, one and two octaves scales and etudes by Kreutzer, Wohlfahrt, and Mazas. For all of my students, I am always trying to find the repertoire that they would enjoy to practice. My work encompasses classical lied accompaniment, sonata-duo, piano trio, and collaborations with dancers. I am a Collaborative Piano Fellow at The Aspen Summer Music Festival and Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar. My other summer engagements have included The Collaborative Piano Institute, Domaine Forget International Music Festival, and Todi Music Academy. Notable performance engagements include projects with Johns Hopkins University Peabody Opera and Todi Music Academy. My teaching approach focuses on fundamentals of technique, grooves, taste, and good timekeeping. I am interested in a student becoming a good listener and being able to play a variety of musical styles. I integrate rudiments, reading, drum fills, solo ideas, improvisation, and developing a unique style. I use a variety of methods, including skills I heard as a pro drummer on stage in the studio. For all students I strongly encourage an appropriate level to begin with. I am very familiar and prefer to teach with the James Bastien series. This series come with the appropriate assigned age level. There are four books with each level. A technic, theory, performance, and Piano. While progressing through that level I mix in to teach Major, Minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales for theory and fundamentals.
