I always begin by figuring out how I can best teach a student by asking them their interests and goals for singing; whether they want to sing jazz or provide vocals for their rock band, or learn to sing classically, etc. For all students who are atleast in their teens or older, I begin by describing how singing works and talk about the function of the body in singing. I usually use pictures from anatomy books to help point out the key organs and muscle groups that are engaged in healthy singing, so as to give a visual aid of what we are working to condition for singing. I spend several lessons giving vocal exercises and helping the student learn to breath in a way that is conducive to healthy singing. As the student begins to practice this over the first few lessons, I choose repertoire (along with whatever they are interested in) that focuses on areas they are doing well in as well as things that challenge their current abilities.
My teaching method books involve All for Strings and Suzuki books. Suzuki books are categorized from level 1-10, level 8-10 is the equivalent of college level reportoire. I currently have students on level 1-8. In addition, I also look for individual method books and outside reportoire of Suzuki once the sudent is ready to move at a faster pace or in need of additional help. Finally, I also include basic music theory in lessons.
As stated above, I try to make students hungry for practice and to feel that the pursuit of a mastery of music is an enriching experience on a deeply personal level. I'm calm, gentle, very easy to talk to. I have great patience for students and realize how frustrating learning an instrument can be sometimes. It is also worth noting that I teach Fiddle (Blu-grass, oldtime, Texas style), Guitar (primarily rhythmn guitar), and Mandolin.
I am a teacher and musician living in Los Angeles, CA, who enjoys sharing my love of music with students. During my lessons students will not only have fun but learn the valuable skills they will need to succeed in any playing setting. I have recorded dozens of albums and toured internationally, opening for artists like KD Lang, Ray LaMontagne, and Coldplay. I have also performed with Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, members of Counting Crows, and Snarky Puppy.
I first began teaching in Highschool but recieved most of my formal experience during the four years of my undergrad education. During the past five years I have taught for UCLA, Mt. San Antonio College, Gymboree Play & Music and in my own private studio. These past years I have taught a wide array of individuals which has taught me and allowed me to grow into an educator that I can be proud of. Through UCLA I have worked with children with various developmental issues such as Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. Through Gymboree I have taught children from the age of two months to five years as well as their parents. And through my own private music practice I have taught saxophone, flute, clarinet, musicianship, music theory and jazz theory to the middleschooler to the proffesional adult.

Unbelievably Awesome. My daughter is a beginner and has some special needs. Justin is more than patient and helpful while being completely thorough and pushing her (in a good way) to try harder. He is encouraging and teaches effectively. I am very pleased. More important, so is my daughter. Thank you Musika! So grateful we found your service and connected with Justin. We highly recommend him.

Travis is the greatest. He knows his music and how to teach it. He gives you time to learn, but will not allow student time to get lazy. I know he teaches all age groups. Young pre-teens to us old folks 78 years young. I have been taking lessons from him since early December 2014. He is a true professional. You can't go wrong with him.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons through her school district program for the last two years. She had learned a lot in that class but I noticed that she needed advanced classes at this point. After reviewing several websites I decided to enroll my daughter for the trial at MUSIKA. We got Mrs. Veronica B., and I am more than happy we got her as my daughter's teacher. Mrs. Veronica B. was very professional and very knowledgeable at the trial day. She was able to assess my daughter skill's level, and then she was able to give suggestions about how to improve those skills. My daughter has taken 5 classes with Mrs. Barker, and I can see she enjoys each class and she's improved a lot since day one. I can picture my daughter playing her favorites songs on the piano very soon!!! :-)

Lindsey has been coming to our house to give saxophone lessons to our 12 year old daughter for about a month. She is an absolute joy. She is extremely knowledgeable, flexible with her schedule, and my daughter thinks she is "fun" and "cool". We would highly recommend her to anyone wanting music lessons. A+

Angela is a phenomenal teacher. She is full of charisma and is a joy to work with. Most of my experience with her has been focused on working in the Alexander Technique and she seems very knowledgeable in this study. I would highly recommend her to any prospective student. I have seen myself improve dramatically in a few short weeks with her guidance (and much practice of course!)

Very knowledgeable on every aspect of music theory. I listen to recording artists playing various classical pieces, Dan's playing is much like a recording artist's playing. Always on time. Winning happy personality, a great role model. Puts me at ease when I am playing. Have two friends who hold music degrees, I count him a third, something special about the minds and personalities of good pianists. Thanks Dan.

This is the 1st time I've ever taken lessons, and Robert has been a pleasure to work with. I've made quick progress and have enjoyed the process. I'm always listening for those tips that you can't find in a book. I can count on Robert to be strict on the fundamentals and am clear it will make a difference in the long run.

Dan gave private clarinet lessons to my daughter, Annie, for two years. During that time, she excelled as a member of the middle school band, and maintained first-chair. Dan is an excellent teacher, and Annie looked forward to having one-on-one time with him. In addition to practicing pieces with her, he helped her with scales and greatly improved her tone quality.

Ali was an amazing voice coach! She taught in a way that made sense to me, and helped me find the voice placements I needed. I didn't know I could sound like that! My development with her was leaps and bounds rather than tiny dreadful steps that happen when you don't know what's going on! Ali was dedicated to helping me work on an audition for a music scholarship and I nailed it all thanks to her, seriously. I can't thank her enough! She helped me with the tools and confidence I needed to sing in the real world alone rather than just back row in a large choir.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
