If students are very young and have not learned to read music, I work on ear training and listening to music and practicing rhythms before learning to read music. When teaching older students and adults, I feel it is helpful for me to find out what kinds of music they enjoy listening to, so that they can learn these pieces on their instrument. We also play duets together when the student becomes more advanced. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Bass Guitar
As almost any instructor will tell you, the methods I use depend largely on the student and their abilities. Younger students usually benefit from learning to read music and a beginning method book is usually helpful. I strongly believe that ear training is the key to musicianship so I use the material we cover in lessons to help students develop good aural perception. I know that understanding music theory is crucial for communicating with other musicians. Read More

My teaching experience actually began in high school when family friends noticed my skill and asked me to teach their kids. I then later accomplished many things while in Houston, Texas (where I previously lived) including live concert performances with the William Byrd Institute, instruction under renowned professors of music, and starting my own private home based lessons. I also spent a few months teaching at a popular music academy in San Antonio, Texas where performances, group lessons and recitals were all encouraged. Read More

I use the Belwin Mills and String Builder books, also Klengel Technical Studies as well as Harvey S Whistler Position Books. Selected repertoire as the student advances. For beginning adults I try to determine exactly what they are wanting to achieve by starting an instrument at this point in life. For the beginner I determine what kind of talent they have and how to proceed with lessons. Learning an instrument is hard - and practice time at home is essential and must be consistent to progress. I started teaching during my days at the Conservatory, as it was required in the study program. I graduated as a performer and educator in classical and Afro-Cuban percussion, with the piano as a complementary instrument. Teaching has always been an important and constant part of my career, since I have always viewed teaching as a learning tool. I came to realize that the process of constantly finding new ways to make the students understand and interiorize something, was of great benefit to myself. Read More
Instruments: Violin
My teaching experience dates back to my college days,as I began teaching private lessons 17 years ago,and have been consistently teaching students in my home or students home for the last 17 years.Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for students,as it tends to help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument.I have also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the violin and motivate to practice and continue to learn.
