For years 1 & 2, we will go through the "red" and "blue" books (Standard of Excellence) together, in order to formulate the right habits with embouchure, breathing, posture, and learning to read and play the correct notes. Once some headway has been made, we can begin "Arban's" for technical studies, Bai Lin's "Lip Flexibilities" for advance warm up and excersies, and Rochut's "Melodious Etudes" for solo material. I've been playing flute for many many decades. I keep it fresh by continuing to learn more about music. It's an endless well of possibilities. I currently play with a jazz quartet. I've played flute since i was 9 years old and currently favor the alto flute, with its rich, lower tone. I play and teach both C flute (regular flute) and the alto flute. In teaching, i emphasize music basics and also focus on comfort which leads to better tone and more ease. Read More

My experience performing music started at a very young age (6 or 7). Growing up with three older brothers who all played instruments, I was quickly introduced to playing gigs for family functions and other events. In addition to school bands, honor bands, and orchestras, I was also able to play with my local University concert band while still in high school. I like to keep my lessons laid back, but also focused. Music is better when the person is relaxed, so I enjoy keeping a certain levity in my lessons. I enjoy getting to know each of my students individually and find out who and what inspires them to better mold my instruction to their wants. During the years of my undergraduate studies I participated in several projects with the emphasis on teaching pedagogy and performance. I was involved in a string project at Sacramento State University, where I had the opportunity to learn effective pedagogical methods in academic and performance spheres, and incorporate them in my practices working with teenage musicians. There will be bi-weekly master classes that students have the option of attending to perform for other students, and learn from watching (This is a big learning tool). But as I said it is optional. The student will always be working toward their goal while enriching their musical taste.  I really enourage live performance, and will provide ample performance opportunities. I travel to all of my students houses and have a very flexible schedule. It helps with minimizing the time of the parents/ students travel and bringing the lesson into the comfort of their own home. I check with each student what they are really trying to get out of their lessons and which direction they want to go. For the kids I make it extra fun with lots of prizes and games to motivate them and wanting to learn more.I love watching the talent of kids explode into something beautiful. Read More
