What I like to do in my studio is, set realistic goals for the student. I use "challenges" to help students achieve their goals. And reward them when they achieve them. I like using a lot of games as well to make piano learning fun. So I teach a lot of theory aspects using games with timers, and flash cards, dry erase dices and prizes when goals are meant. My passion for working with students started in high school. I was a long time counselor at my high school's summer day camp and acted as a leader to a group of kids from 2nd grade to 4th grade. In college that passion, combined with my passion for music, led me to major in music education. For beginning students, i start with the fundamentals technical basics of the instrument like long notes, scales and flexibility. Once the student has progressed, i will start with Arban's method book, H.L.Clarke Technical studies for Trumpet and my own exercises. Later i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. For adults, i try to find out what the student is interested in, and from there, use that with my instruction to keep the lessons engaging and fun for them, no matter their ability level. Read More

I typically start each student off on a series of lesson books to help structure their learning in an academic way. However, I highly encourage bringing in classical pieces and students picking pieces of their own and bringing them to me to go over and learn. I’ve found that this keeps the students highly motivated and passionate about their lessons and practice. For beginners, the books are highly recommended, but for more advanced students who have finished the books, we begin classical technique exercises meant to help with the increasing level of difficulty of their songs.
