Instruments: Guitar Classical Guitar
I am a classical guitar instructor capable of working with students of all skill levels and ages. I have played the instrument for 20 years. Currently, I am studying guitar at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with Ernesto Bitetti. As part of my work at the school, I have taught group and individual lessons in pop and classical guitar for the past three years, mostly at a beginner level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet
I cater my teaching and methods to each individual student and his/her needs and goals. For beginners, I often use Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements. After progressing past that, the Rubank books and Hite etudes work for many students. Starting around 8th grade, I introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level. During lessons, I always have students work on some form of scale, sight-reading, and ear training. I have several duet books (and a Disney book!) that students love to sight-read from. Read More

I believe the foundation of progress is consistency, so I try to establish routines with my students, spending part of each lesson on technical exercises, theory/aural skills training, and repertoire. I also set performance goals for students by organizing recitals *this has been more tricky during Covid, but I think it is important nonetheless to get students to perform from memory at least twice a year (once at the end of fall and spring terms). My views on teaching or being an instructor are vast. Every individual is different and their understanding of rhythm, melodies, chord structure, and time signatures can vary even though the fundamental structure of music and theory is relatively the same. I believe in teaching music that the student wants to learn, whether that's the latest pop song or basic music theory which can be applied to any style. For my piano students, I prefer Alfred's piano curriculum. For my guitar students, I use Hal Leanord books. For my voice students, we work on whatever songs they want to learn or have assigned to them for a performance. For flute, I like Rubank method, but am open to other preferred methods as well. Instruments: Piano Guitar
I started teaching private piano lessons to all ages and abilities when I was in college. I have experience with beginner level students ages 5-adult and intermediate level students ages 6-14. I have experience teaching traditional classical piano (reading sheet music), as well as pop piano (reading lead sheets). I've had the privilege of studying under several different piano professors and teachers in the past 15 years. I draw on their teaching styles, as well as my own experience in teaching. Read More
