Through the Institute, I had the opportunity to teach students from the Madison WI area ranging in age from elementary through high school. I have been teaching private lessons for 7 years part-time, and have been consistently teaching students full time for the last 3 and half years. I have taught at the prestigious Dallas School of Music, in Dallas, TX, and now am excited to join the Musika team. I have a strong foundation in classical and non-classical genres, so I've enjoyed teaching students of all skills levels, from 4 year old piano students, to 70 year old voice students, with many others in between. I think students should want to practice for the joy of it, and so try to keep lessons fun and informative. I do believe in the importance of technique, however, and so try to encourage students to do short vocal exercises daily. My methods are based in Suzuki as I am a strong believer that students musical capabilities can be developed regardless of their musical predispositions. For beginning students that have minimal background musical knowledge, I incorporate theory and aural skill trailing into the lessons to help the students learn to read their music and apply the theoretical and technical concepts learned in each class to the repertoire studied.
