My preferred method for very young students has been the Suzuki method, as I believe a well trained ear continues to be our best musical learning tool later in life as well. When students progress to reading, the full line of Suzuki books can of course be utilized, but it is very advisable to incorporate additional materials and techniques. The Kodaly method is also useful and even more traditional 'reading first' techniques can be used if requested. Read More

My teaching dates back to my early career as a gigging musician. If there were to be a rehearsal before a show, I would show my bandmates how a certain song were to go. Eventually, I decided to do some private guitar teaching gigs besides making a living as a gigging musician. My first teaching gig was for one of my cousins whose son wanted to learn guitar. After a couple of lessons with him and he eventually lost interest in learning guitar. Read More

First things first. We will use ourearsto learn music before we spend time reading what musiclooks likeon paper. This is especially true when learning to play the drum set. This is not because they can't, rather it shows that drum set playing is more about interpreting music--not necessarily playing it exactly the same all the time. This skill involves our ears, not our eyes. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Trombone Ukulele Euphonium Tuba
I play in a wide variety of diverse musical groups on various instruments. I have performed with orchestras, big bands, and jazz combos as well as funk, hip hop, and even metal bands, all at a professional level. Although trombone is my main instrument, it has given me the solid foundation to play euphonium and tuba at a high level as well. My strong background in guitar also gave me the skills to learn ukulele, which now make up almost half of my lessons taught. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
I began teaching the clarinet in 2016 at Highland Park High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. 7 of my 8 students in 2016 placed in the TMEA Region Band, and another 2 went on to the 5A TMEA All-State Symphonic Band. In 2017, I had another student place in the 5A TMEA All-State Symphonic Band. I took up an additional job teaching at William B Travis TAG Academy in Dallas, where I taught beginners and 7th graders. Instruments: Piano
I have used different piano books since I started teaching and find the methodology of Faber Piano Adventures suitable for students of different age groups and levels. Students can learn how to play songs in different varieties such as jazz, classical, rock, theme songs from Disney movies and well-known festival songs which they can sing along. Also, most of the repertoire has a duet section for me to play together with the student which makes the learning more fun and enjoyable. Read More
