I have been teaching guitar almost for as long as I've been playing. I'm a self-taught musician from the age of 15; at 16 I was helping my close friends learn; and by 17 I was already taking on students. Since then, I've had over a decade of experience and dozens of students who I've helped usher in to the wonderful world of music. I have also worked as a teaching assistant and private tutor in academia, and have taught (quite literally) hundreds of students, from kindergarten to college. Read More

I am a passionate, motivated instructor who loves teaching music to people of all ages. I have taught children as young as 3 as well as adults. I believe it is never too late to learn an instrument. With the right instructor and dedication, students can achieve their musical dreams. My early experiences as a music teacher for the Ellen Masaki School of Music was the foundation of my music career. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will initiate the practice of beginning scales and arpeggios (Klengel method) to familiarize the student with major and minor scales, different scale modalities, and different key signatures. I will also start them on a progressive melodic musical method book, such as The Art of Cello Playing (Louis Potter), so that they can enjoy playing nice music pieces that could be played later in a recital. I found my love of teaching music early, while I was still in high school I volunteered my time at my old middle school. Since then I have been teaching music privately and in public schools for the last 9 years. I have helped students of all levels and had private students win auditions in county and district events on the Trumpet. Time with students is the most precious resource you get with them as a teacher so my philosophy is to always be prepared and maximize the time I get with students. Read More

My approach varies depending on the student. For younger students I usually take a very systematic step by step approach using method books. If the student already knows what they want to learn and has specific goals I try to tailor to their needs. For guitar students who are starting from scratch I usually begin with the Hal Leonard Guitar method book or give them the option to use a classical method book if they're really interested in classical guitar. Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I believe a well-rounded and practical approach to teaching music-- where students learn to not only read music, but also play freely with chords and scales to create their own music, learn by ear, and improvise. My goal is to help students grow so that they can play music in a personal and rewarding way, and develop the skills they need to play the songs that they love. I use both Piano Adventures and Alfred Premier method book series in my lessons. Read More
