I have been playing guitar for nearly 20 years. Over those years I have played many different styles, playing different instruments in different bands, from open mics to big venues all over the country. I love playing music and love helping others discover their love as well. One note worthy teaching gig I’ve had was working for a company in Nassau County, NY teaching guitar and music theory to developmentally challenged adults in a day program. There is no musician I will turn away; my focus is guitar, but I have many instruments and can introduce the basics for many such as drums, violin, viola, cello, piano, bass guitar, as well as composition and arrangement. I have worked with many bands, ensembles, and chamber groups, and would love the opportunity to help you achieve your musical goals. Whatever your musical interests, I'll help you get to where you want to go. Read More

For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. Now, as I embark on this new chapter in my musical journey, I'm beyond excited to share my knowledge, experiences, and infectious enthusiasm with all you talented musicians out there. We're going to dive headfirst into the enchanting realm of music, explore different genres and techniques, and unleash the incredible potential that resides within each and every one of us. Read More

I am a patient and flexible teacher. I have extensive knowledge of theory and various techniques, but I make sure the student is learning what they want. I believe in teaching songs to introduce new skills. Through repertoire, the student can learn theory, ear training, technique and other fundamental skills. I have been playing guitar and bass since 2000 and started playing piano and ukulele in college in 2008. I specialize in jazz and improvisation, but I have studied and love all kinds of music like folk, reggae, classical, rock and blues. Read More

In this section, we will apply a series of beats and grooves to music of the students choice learning how to flow with other musicians, listen, and have an overall awareness of song form and shape. 4. This is the step where we apply our study of technicalities. This is where we study soloing, improvisation, and alertness as an improvising musician. This is the last step because it is applied in conjunction with all of the other steps, and cannot be achieved without at least a fundamental understanding and application of the previous steps. I am both goal-oriented and open-ended with my students. At the beginning of lessons, I always check in with them to see how their progress was for the week and any questions or concerns that arose in their practice. I find this puts the ownership on them to reflect on their week of music making (and help them to remember that practice happens more than just in the lesson!). Often, students come to me with interesting observations and questions about their instrument and it engages them more personally. Read More
