I am an intuitive teacher: I have learned how to observe my students, their moods, their energy levels, and adjust my lesson plan on the fly. For instance, one student has ADHD, which I manage by injecting exciting new rhythms for him to mimic when I see his attention wander. I then harness that renewed focus towards the original goal of the lesson, whether it’s learning a new time signature or a complex cross-rhythm. Read More

Some of my favorite and most rewarding feelings in life have been when students have an "aha!" moment. These moments come after consistent engagement with a concept. Thats why I encourage daily practice (of any length, as long as its daily.) I balance grunt work with fun work, making sure that students are learning music THEY want to learn. My lessons usually begin with a short warm up, followed by a review of the goals set last week, followed by the introduction development of a new concept(or two), and concluding with a setting of goals for the next lesson, with the answering of questions all in between. I have also studied the methods of Kodaly who's though process is to develop ones sense of listening and and musicality. I also have studied Orff who strongly uses percussion in his teaching. It also lets the student experiment with the instruments but also how to approach and play instruments. I use anywhere from music that allows the student to learn to control they way the play to the student being able to write, sing and listen to music. Read More

I love to have students have a conversation with me about their love for music. This is a great way to encourage them to continue with practicing outside of the lessons. If a student feels they are not happy with their voice on a certain exercise, I will modify the way I word something or have them try the exercise in a different way. This way, they feel the difference and can feel happier about the sound they are producing. Read More

I began teaching when I was a junior in highchool 5 years ago. As I progressed and study music at college I've kept on teaching as I've kept on learning, both at school and at home. Consistency is key and I always ingrain this into my students, no matter the level. The more you play the more you'll foster a love for your instruments! Being classically trained has given me a phenomenal base for my playing and I always try and incorporate the excellent form and technique it produces when teaching, especially with students of different genres! Instruments: Flute
I started teaching when I was 16. I have taught small classes and private lessons for many years. I have developed a methodical system so that all aspects of flute playing are covered in a practical way that shows results from the first lesson. I teach so the student truly understand what they are playing - not just copying or playing by rote. I play for and with the student in duets so that the student can hear and be inspired by a beautiful sound and emulate it,. Read More
