I start with training your hands to play as effortlessly as possible. We do that by working on exercises I've developed along with Snare drum books. I look to customize lessons that fit each student. Together we pick books, and music that fits their needs. As we go along I add the necessary techniques that will move the student to higher levels of playing. The great thing about private one-on-one lessons is the individualized pace and learning style. I like to understand the most effective ways my student learns. Some students need to be immersing themselves in exercises that allow them to create and experience the music through a personal lens. Some students prefer to hone in on the technical work and theory. I was the recipient of the Hibbard Perry Mandolin Scholarship (2003) and the Mandolin Symposium Scholarship (2009). After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business with a concentration in classical guitar from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2006), I moved to Nashville, Tennessee where I held the position of Finance Coordinator at Sony Music Entertainment. In 2008, I relocated to Chicago to continue performing in various ensembles and was awarded a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University in 2016, where he I studied jazz mandolin and guitar under the tutelage of virtuoso guitarist Fareed Haque.
