For 23 years, I have taught instrumental music in the public schools in New York State, as well as private lessons. Although I teach all styles of music, at lessons, I focus on music of students choice. I have coached numerous rock bands at the local youth center. I am happy to teach absolute beginners, intermediate players, and anyone who feels like they are stuck and can't get better. In most cases I will photocopy material from a variety of books or use my own. I would most likely recommend a book after I got a feel for the students level and music style preference. I fell in love with music at a young age, hearing relatives sing and play, and began taking guitar and bass lessons as a teen.  I then majored in bass and music at Onondaga Community College, which is known for it's music program.  I have had the opportunity to tour the country with a band out of Austin, Texas, as a signed professional musician with a national act.  I recorded a love show for XM Radio, and have had a song played on NPR. I began teaching electric guitar and bass in high school. My approached involved a degree of a musical philosophy. Sometimes we would go outside and listen to the sounds of the train going by, the wind, the birds, cars etc in an almost meditative approach to learn to appreciate that music is all around us. Besides teaching in the Austrian school system I performed in chamber music groups and had solo tours of southern Austria. When I came back to the States I earned my masters in band/music instruction from Syracuse University. I have also performed with my group; 2 flutes and cello all around Central NY.
