Overview:
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University in 2018 with a Bachelors of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a minor in Musical Theatre. I have had the chance to perform around the country in various ensembles, and attended the American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Austria studying in their Lieder Studio. At Miami, I performed in five operas, and performed in chamber and jazz ensembles. This fall, I will begin at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York to receive my Masters of Music in Vocal Performance & Literature.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private voice lessons in high school to friends that wanted to work on building vocal technique. Upon beginning college, I took giving lessons more seriously and have consistently had a studio of a few students a semester for the past year and a half. I have studied voice pedagogy and have a deep understanding of how the vocal mechanism functions and how to ensure that students are singing healthily and strengthening their instruments. I have played piano for 13 years and am able to also teach students how to play so that they are able to read music and better understand music theory. I love when a student begins to realize how much their voice has changed and how much they've improved--it's so gratifying to see their growing confidence in themselves and their abilities!
METHODS USED
Regardless of the age of the student, I want to ensure that the music we work on is both enjoyable for them and healthy for their voice. I do research for each individual student so that the correct repertoire is chosen! For beginning students who are ages 7-12, I begin with folk songs and Disney songs. These have simpler melodies and engaging text that help younger students stay interested. For beginning students that are 12-18, I will begin with folk songs and musical theatre songs, moving to art song and classical pieces. For adult students, I find out what the student enjoys and allow that to guide my instruction to help the lessons stay fun and interesting.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching should be fun for both the teacher and student! I truly believe that the teacher should learn as much from the teacher as the student learns. Each person interprets a song differently and I want to allow my students to be expressive and find their passion for and through music. For vocal performing, it can be a vulnerable experience. The voice is such an innate part of you--no one's vocal instrument is exactly like yours! Thus, sharing your voice with the world is such a special experience. As a teacher, it is my job to help you feel more comfortable and confident as a vocalist, performer, artist, and person.

Ali possesses the rare gift of being equal parts competent and patient. I say "competent" not just in light of her experience and musical capability, but also, and perhaps more importantly when it comes to vocal instruction, her keen ability to see and hear exactly what needs adjustment. When something seemed off in my singing, she wouldn't simply encourage me to do it again. Rather, she'd isolate and emphasize the specific area(s) that needed adjustment: pitch, pronunciation, posture, pallet, breath control, and so on. Conversely, she'd be quick to tell me in which of those areas I was doing well. The benefits of precise constructive criticism in this way are difficult to articulate without having experienced it first hand. I can merely say that, when properly attended to, adjustments in these targeted areas really does make all the difference. And I say "patience" because there is a palpable sense that you and Ali genuinely share the same goal: to improve your vocal performance. At no point in her lessons does it feel like instruction for its own sake; instead, it feels as if you are engaged in a truly cooperative project aimed at a mutual end result. So in brief conclusion: if you are looking for someone with both the ability and the disposition to assist you in your vocal future, look no further than Ali.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
