Past experiences include singing with the UTB/TSC Master chorale, with which he performed at the Texas Music Educators Association. My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes. Encouraging regular practice, building the life-long skill of discipline, and hard work are key skills that I enjoy getting to emphasize to my students, as it has a tendency to build student progression and ultimately gain a passion for learning the instrument. I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. I went on to get my Master's degree at Georgia State University and then returned to Louisiana State University for my final degree in Cello Performance. Read More

I teach my students to practice a growth mindset. As musicians, I find that we can easily become perfectionists. While I think it is important to critique ourselves so we can improve, my policy is that my students critique themselves based on their own progress. For example, instead of comparing themselves to other students at an audition, I encourage them to compare themselves to who they were yesterday. I truly believe that students can more easily reach their full potential when they are focused on growth rather than competition against others. Read More

Along with fundamentals, I always start incorporating music theory, to help them better understand how music is structured and to further train their ear. Of course, depending on the level will depend how far we get into music theory. Even though they might be taking trombone lessons, I don't want to necessarily train them to be a trombone player, but rather a musician.
