I celebrate all progress and goals with my students, and love seeing them grow as musicians! I aim to instill a love of music into my students, and want them to be able to gain joy from their playing. For beginners I typically start with the Bastien or Faber Method and as their level increases I always assign pieces outside of the piano method which are generally performed at their first recital. Adults are also welcome to participate and I have them work on at least 2 contrasting pieces based on skills they may need to work on as well as something they love and enjoy learning. I do give basics importance (scales, arpeggios, etc) as I believe this greatly improves a student's understanding and helps them reach a much higher level in the repertoire they are working on. My primary goal is to help young students develop a love and deep appreciation for music, which is accomplished through patience, instruction, encouragement and developing incremental levels for each students progress. I also consider myself to be excellent in teamwork projects, as I am always willing to learn from others and am very cooperative in any form of group dynamic. I have been teaching private lessons for about 2 years, both for a company and privately. These lessons include beginner piano, voice, and violin. In my music therapy internship I have also had the experience of teaching adaptive piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons. Finally, while I am not yet board certified and cannot offer music therapy until next school year, I have over 1,000 hours of music therapy clinical experience in which I use musical activities to help clients achieve non-musical goals in the areas of cognition, emotion, physical abilities, communication, social skills and academics.
