I began teaching trumpet privately 44 years ago. Over the years I have added voice, beginning piano, trombone, euphonium,and recorder to my studio. I encourage each student to practice several times a week for as long as they can. I find that some students like to practice in one sitting, whereas others prefer to practice for 10-15 minutes before taking a break and then returning. A brief assessment of technique then guides personalized lesson plans that blend technical drills (scales, arpeggios) with engaging repertoire. I teach Classically trained Violin, viola, and piano. I am equally comfortable teaching very beginners as well as high school and adult students. I am very honest in my feedback. I like to stick to the former. I strongly believe that a good, strong foundation leads to fewer problems in the future and makes the process of music-making much more enjoyable. My main goal is to help raise individuals, who are critical thinkers, who are passionate about what they do, and who will take their love of music into the adulthood whether playing it professionally or as an amateur. I have played in numerous orchestras, even jazz bands. As well as playing alongside the president's very own Marine Quartet in 2013 and 2014. I have had the chance to take master classes from Professor Susanna Klein at Virginia Commonwealth University and to perform side by side with Mark Wood, his wife and son!
