I am an avid music lover, performer, and teacher. I was lucky to study piano from a young age and have the amazing pre-collegiate experiences of appearing on MTV's Made and opening for the likes of McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, and Bela Fleck. I then received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where I studied saxophone performance as well as piano, songwriting, and audio production. I am a competitor by nature, so I have a goal to get the best out of my students. I will do what I have to do to make sure these students can play by the time we are done. It is my goal to remove students from methods as soon as possible- somewhere around early intermediate skill level, so that we may engage with more meaningful repertoire from the 'greats', as well as give the students the tools to take agency over their own repertoire choices, including transcriptions of popular media. For students that are children or just beginning I start with establishing foundations in music structure and rhythm. The Suzuki school of teaching is often used but not always. Intermediate students are flexible with where the lesson plan is headed while each lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style. Intermediate students are coached on form, music theory, and musicality. I try to inspire students to become passionate musicians and people through my teaching and by example. It is important to play from the heart and not just notes on a page. It makes music and flute playing all the more gratifying! I also provide a lot of positive encouragement for students in their music but also for their lives in general.
