For beginning students, I focus on the essentials of theory and intervals and combine with the Voice for Life method. Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs and goals, so no lesson is exactly alike in structure. For intermediate to advanced students, I focus on aural (ear) training, sight singing and rhythm and follow it with prepared pieces in order to be "audition ready". I like to think I'm a laid-back kind of guy, though I can get loud and boisterous sometimes when a student figures something hard out. I wonder sometimes if I don't get more excited about a student's breakthrough than he does! My wife sometimes tells me I have no "indoor voice," lol. I don't give grades (except for my college students, because I have to), but if I did, the grade would be either "A" or "I," as in incomplete, as in do it over until it's great. Read More

I have written hundreds of pages of exercises from which to pull for virtually every difficulty and style. I have played literally thousands of original and cover songs with many bands. I studied classical guitar and studied with the amazing guitarist and teacher Louis Steele. I was also active in all the Jazz ensembles, choirs, and Pep Bands. After graduating I toured the Western US with the indie/soul group Hello Dollface. In my tenure in the band we released two albums, completed a Kick-starter for $10,000, and toured in every western state in the US performing in bars, theaters, private events and festivals. Read More
