As I said, I do love to teach the individual, and after discovering their goals, use the approach that I believe will work best for them. I have many books that I use, and have worked in the past with Bunny Brunel and Mel Bay. With the instruments I teach, there are many different avenues that one could be wanting to take, from learning more theory, getting into Jazz Band at school, performing popular music live, or auditioning for college. This is why I take a versatile approach in my teaching, and in describing my instruction methods. Read More

My teaching style is to go at the student's pace but also to gently encourage and motivate all along the way. In this way, the students has the incentive to work at their own pace while I try to move the momentum along. The whole idea is to have fun while learning and to motivate each other by learning and playing music together. My additional teaching style is to also listen to music together and assign trumpeters to listen to. in this way the student is able to hear what other trumpet players sound like and can hopefully acquire the sound they like and want in their ear to emulate it in their own sound. With every student, I asses the goals of the child before we decide how to move forward. The curriculum for each student will change according to the ability level, practice schedule, and goals of the student. My methods may include purchasing advanced method books or using the student's own method books, I have used several different books and I would use those books as well as my own materials to incorporate a curriculum. When it comes to working with students, I feel that i am very easy to work with. I try to encourage my students to practice and love to see them progress from week to week. I also understand that learning new things can be frustrating at times, and help them work over the lessons they are having difficulty with. For beginning students I strongly suggest they practice for at least 15 minutes a day, but would prefer they practice 30. Read More
