For beginners through intermediate, I like to start with the basic exercises to include using the Arban Conservatory Method for Trumpet and work on the fundamentals of good tone quality and good intonation. I like to follow a format for lessons, giving a certain amount of time to warming up, practicing technical studies and scales, etudes or lessons, solo literature and ensemble (duet, trio, ensemble) literature. I would encourage students to make an agenda for practicing, I believe many student need to learn how to practice, much like study skills, so they can make good use of their time. I teach students how to mark their music, how to break apart difficult sections and how to set goals for each week. Read More

I'm very patient and kind. Students are expected to practice but I don't I'm always positive and create an enjoyable and rewarding lesson experience. I understand that my students progress at various paces and have different interests. I don't have a particular piano book series I use. I find that most of them present beginning lessons about the same way. I tell very beginning students to only buy the piano book to begin with. If the student continues then I encourage them to purchase the theory and technique books in that level and series. For adults, I let them choose what piano book they want to use. Read More
