I love teaching the individual. My first instructor wanted to know about me, my likes and my goals, and that is the approach I like to take for each student, whether they want to perform live, or need to prepare for a college audition, or anything in between. I taught a class of children around the age of 6, and an older class as well for a while at a private school in Arkansas. It was a joy teaching both age groups. I was able to infuse theory and appreciation into learning songs that they loved. Read More

I generally like to star from where the student is. For beginners through intermediate, I like to start with the basic exercises to include using the Arban Conservatory Method for Trumpet and work on the fundamentals of good tone quality and good intonation. From there I like to work on clean technique while incorporating easy to difficult pieces of music to highlight and reinforce what techniques we are learning/improving. Read More

I like to follow a format for lessons, giving a certain amount of time to warming up, practicing technical studies and scales, etudes or lessons, solo literature and ensemble (duet, trio, ensemble) literature. I would encourage students to make an agenda for practicing, I believe many student need to learn how to practice, much like study skills, so they can make good use of their time. I teach students how to mark their music, how to break apart difficult sections and how to set goals for each week. Read More

I'm very patient and kind. Students are expected to practice but I don't I'm always positive and create an enjoyable and rewarding lesson experience. I understand that my students progress at various paces and have different interests. I always give them challenges at any level and find materials of their interest to enhance the learning experience. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I don't have a particular piano book series I use. I find that most of them present beginning lessons about the same way. I tell very beginning students to only buy the piano book to begin with. If the student continues then I encourage them to purchase the theory and technique books in that level and series. For adults, I let them choose what piano book they want to use. Read More

I love seeing that spark that people get in their eye when they pick up a song they love, or get over a plateau. Ive been able to help my students by learning what inspires them. Then I help them reach realistic goals for their skill. By providing a relaxed atmosphere students can let go of the stress of learning and have fun with it instead. Progression comes naturally with time and by setting personal goals and celebrating accomplishments, encourages the desire to go farther. Read More
