I am a dynamic music instructor who enjoys motivating others to find the best version of themselves. Likewise, I seek the perfect balance between work and dedication that allows the student to feel that each lesson is a new opportunity to grow and develop both as an artist and as a human being. I earned a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, a Master Degree in Flute Performance from the Peabody Conservatory, as well as a Graduate Performance Diploma from Peabody Conservatory as well. Prior to studying at Peabody I toured professionally with various jazz ensembles, including competing for first place wins at the Reno (Nevada) Jazz festival for two years. At Peabody I studied with Fernando Laires and later, Robert Weirich where I excelled in contemporary music and difficult avant guarde performance ensembles. I was also a frequent guest performer for the Peabody Camerata Ensemble under director Gene Young. In the mid 90s I created the Bachelor of Music curriculum for the Maryland Bible College. Read More

For beginning students I typically start with Aaron Stang music books, but am able to adapt if a student comes to me with a book in place. Once they have a grasp of fundementals, I will work with them in chord theory and improvesation. As a student progresses, I will focus more on their area of musical interest. If a student already has experience with their instrument, I will assess them individually and go from there. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
Performing and teaching music are passions of mine as they are apart of my everyday life. I have been playing the Trumpet for 14 years and I am proficient in both Jazz and Classical music. I graduated from Towson University in Fall 2012 with a bachelors degree in Jazz Performance. I am excited to expand my musical network by meeting students, peers, and role models alike. My musical influences stem from the experiences with my private teachers as well as the work of legendary musicians. Read More

The student is the most important piece of the puzzle. If the student is not happy, then practice and lessons will not be a positive interaction. My goal is to make music as fun as possible. I have done the work of teaching myself and I have the hindsight of mistakes I made along the way; slight areas of wasting time, plateaus, you name it. Therefore, I have the answers to how to avoid some of the same mistakes I made! Read More
Instruments: Double Bass
As a teacher, I structure made-to-measure lessons plans and progress metrics based on the students age, experience, interest level and other commitments like school, job, family and sports. No one approach to teaching can address the unique talents each student brings to the lesson; I strive to create a balance between progress, talent, goals and commitment to the student experience. In terms of methodology, it is important to learn or to increase the usability of the "bow," as it helps develop the musical ear and is the basis of the Simandl method of positional double bass technique. I will often start beginning students with George Vance method books, emphasizing sound setup, facility, notation reading and musicality. With more advanced students, we will evaluate their tastes and experience to determine the best music for study. The Bach Cello suites are a life long endeavor for many bassists, and the major concertos and sonatas are a way for the motivated bassist to attain performance opportunities. A positive attitude and a thorough practice regimen will go a long way in addition to our lessons. Read More
