In 2007, I graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. I was a member of the Penn State Marching Blue Band and have participated in several Alumni Blue Band performances since graduating. I went on to earn my Masters of Music in Music Education from Northwestern University in 2012. I enjoyed teaching music in the public school for ten years. In addition to her studies at Vanderbilt, Blythe studied at the Institute of European Studies, in Vienna, Austria. There, she had the opportunity of working with Ulrike Anton, and with Barbara Gisler-Haase, at Universiteat fur Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. While an undergraduate, Blythe performed with various chamber ensembles and toured China with the university's orchestra. I like to set goals for my students. I generally work out of lessons books, solo repertoire, and whatever else the student brings in. If the students have music from classes in school, I will also assist them with that. I try to keep the lesson light, and enjoyable! I first try to establish why the student wants to learn their instrument and what artists/bands they are influenced by if any. Although I do try to establish goals for them, these goals are reasonable and attainable. It is important to me that they progress at their own pace and have fun as well. Nothing is more important to me than helping others develop a passion for music and I will use anything from Bach to Beethoven or The Beatles to Guns N'Roses to help them achieve it. Read More
