Instruments: Drums
Trained in a competitive drumline environment, I have an eagle eye for ways to rapidly improve students' techniques and rudimental abilities. I pass this wisdom on to my students in a much more comfortable, low pressure environment than the world of drumline, however. My passion in teaching lies in finding those moments where students discover that the amazing techniques they want to learn are much more achievable and within reach than they even thought! Read More

I can teach any skill level. If you are beginning with zero experience, the first thing I teach is middle C. It's the center of the universe as far as the piano is concerned. I also teach 'spider position', which is how the student wants to have their hands positioned. Intermediate students can dictate to me what they want to work on. If they just want to learn "Charlie Brown" I can teach that, or if they want a more regimented lesson plan I can do that as well. I also have advanced students. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching focuses on bodily awareness and fundamental vocal techniques initially; this includes exercises to promote bodily flexibility and release tension in the muscles that can hinder ideal singing. This is paired with vocal exercises that promote use of the voice in a way that allows maximal vocal freedom and health. As the student gains consistency of vocal control and awareness, more time is allotted to working on music. I encourage students to discuss and choose music from the style(s) of their liking, as this keeps the student maximally engaged and allows the student to apply what they've learned to a situation that they can relate to. I've been teaching on and off for about 10 years, I enjoy helping students obtain their goals, whatever their age or skill level. I think it's important for guitarists to learn some basic music fundementals we can communicate with other improvisers outside of guitar-centric music. I am not against guitar tablature sites altogether, but I do believe that tablature can be more useful if it at least indicates the rhythms. I believe learning how to read and notate rhythms can help enrich and empower students and help them develop as performs, composers and teachers in their own right. Read More

Growing up with multiple educators in my family has had a huge impact on my life as a volunteer in classrooms. My volunteer experience began when I was in fifth grade, and has continued throughout all of my education experience at Concordia. As I kept growing into a stronger individual, I discovered that the age group I wanted to work with also grew older with me. Working in multiple classrooms throughout my life has only strengthened my resolve to be a teacher because of the communities I have discovered through volunteering. Read More

My teaching experience begins as early as 9th grade. I started teaching middle school sectionals to 7th and 8th graders. I would help with tonal and technical work, as well as their band pieces. Once I began my senior year in high school, I started to lead and teach my high school sectionals. As well as the freshman level band and do their sectionals twice to three times a week. Read More
