Instruments: Piano
I love music and playing the piano and seek to convey my enthusiasm to beginner or intermediate level students while also being strict and detail oriented to develop good habits for maximal expression and best results. I try to bring out what is unique in each student and help fulfill their personal goals. I have been playing piano for 50 years and it has enriched my life so much that I want to give this gift to the next generation. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I have been teaching privately since 2002. I have guest lectured at Manhattan School of Music, University of Toronto, Humber College, and have given clinics at numerous high schools and colleges in Canada and the United States. I have also taught at seven different music camps. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My teaching experience dates back to just before I started college, as I began teaching lessons part time in 1991. I believe that students begin playing an instrument because they think it is fun. My goal is to have lessons be fun all while establishing a good core of basics to build upon. I do this by learning about each studentindividuallyand catering my lessons to their likes/dislikes. This can be done by learning all types of music; classical, pop/rock, showtunes, country, etc. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I started playing drums when I was 10 years old in my elementary school band. Quickly, I became hooked to practicing and getting better and growing as a musician. I also fell in love with music and it's healing abilities. As a teenager, I played in my high school concert band, jazz band and had my own rock bands outside of school. I was hungry for anything to make me a better drummer. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion Conga Latin Percussion
I would describe my teaching style as firm, even strict at times, but never mean or dry. Enjoyment, weather that be in the form of accomplishment, fulfillment, or just plain fun, is the key for success! Although I do think every student needs to know about certain aspects of playing and listening, every student is going to have different ideas of where they want to go with drums and music. Read More
Instruments: Cello
For beginners, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Book 1 for cello. These books give a firm structure and introduce classical pieces as well as familiar tunes. Once we finish these two method books, I focus on what the student is more interested in. Are they geared towards classical, or do they really like showtunes? Whatever their interest may be, I find suitable repertoire and continue to challenge and strenghten their abilities. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder Piccolo Music
My teaching takes the form of private lessons on flute, clarinet, and saxophone, and courses at NYU. In each educational situation, I aim to establish clear goals and assignments, build confidence through positive reinforcement, and explain concepts in an engaging manner appropriate to each student. I enjoy teaching students with diverse learning goals and strengths and learning about the unique ways every student connects with music intellectually and emotionally. I set realistic goals for my students, but emphasize the importance of the process more so than the end result. Read More
