Instruments: Piano Voice
My name is Louis and I am a young artist who recently moved to New York City. I have been studying voice for about 12 years and I have my Bachelor Degree in Musical Theatre. I love to teach voice to artists who are passionate for singing and willing to learn more and more! My first goal when I start with new students is to make them feel confident and ready to push their limits further! Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Piano Flute Recorder Piccolo
My greatest accomplishment in teaching over the years has been to help students enjoy the music that they really want to play. This takes a great deal of devotion and research into finding the resources that students need to find the music they love best. I am a firm believer in a positive approach to teaching, concentrating not on mindless rote repetition, but on the artistic method where students can learn to improve and always make the music more and more impressive. Instruments: Voice
In our first lesson, I will ask that they bring something to record their lesson with. I will warm the student up vocally, in order to hear their range, capability and level of skills. I will then ask them to sing a little something for me, something they love that they're passionate about. From there I will be able to understand what they need as far as technique training. I will also be able to see which direction the student wants to take in terms of genre. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
When working with younger children, I typically begin with the Suzuki method in order to establish strong musical and technical fundamentals. The Suzuki curriculum is also popular across many music programs in New York, so it provides beginning violinists an opportunity to play music with their peers. For adolescents and adults, I place an earlier emphasis on designing a curriculum based on their musical interests, with equal focus devoted to technique. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers To Play." Once the student has progressed and becomes more familiar with reading the notes in both clefs, I will begin to introduce solo pieces of music that the child picks out of the choices I present to them. I do this to help encourage and reward the child with their success. For adult piano students, I find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. Read More
