Instruments: Flute
For beginners and younger students, I typically start with the Trevor Wye Beginner Method books or the Flute Student method book by Douglas Steensland. More intermediate students I will start out with the Rubank Method books. All of these books are tailored towards flute specifically, and have fairly comprehensive and progressive exercises that are very effective. I like to start out with a method book, and I can supplement with other materials to bet fit the needs of the student. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet
My mother was a trumpet and piano teacher and I grew up with lessons going on in the house constantly. My father was an English teacher for 35 years! I have enjoyed thirty years of private lessons, teaching all ages a variety of styles of music! My sister is a violinist that plays in the Stanford Symphony! I have also taught in several different music stores. I taught for several years at Munroe Music in Huntington, and in Northport on Long Island. Read More
Instruments: Violin Cello Viola Double Bass
My teaching experience began at age 16, when a family friend asked if I would teach her daughter violin. I instantly found a love for the challenge of teaching, and the joy when a student experiences success. I have taught privately in a myriad of settings: music stores, music studios, and in students' homes. In high school, I was accepted into a music program that prepared me for entering college as a Music Education major. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! It is important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, acknowledging accomplishments, fueling a students desire to progress, and finding ways to stimulate a students desire to learn more. My style is adaptive to each student but overall I am conversational, goal oriented, and keen to explore the strengths and doubts of each student. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
For children I like to encourage enjoyment with the guitar so I make sure that there is a growth in technique and a growth of passion and excitement. For adults I really like to know what the student is interested in and I propose songs/techniques relating to or around the subject matter. My number one goal is to make sure that you can be able to express yourself musically! : ) Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
This pedagogy uses the Suzuki repertoire but can also be used with other books. The Suzuki (Japanese) method is one of the most popular in the US. This method establishes strong musical and technical fundamentals. Other methods lead to similar results and can be just as enjoyable and interesting. Some examples are Robert Trorys (British) books or The Sassmannhaus Tradition (German). For older children and adults, I choose appropriate repertoire based on their musical interests, while still focusing on technique. Read More
