I have been playing the clarinet for 33 years.    Although; clarinet is my primary instrument, I actually started my musical career on the viola and have been playing that for 34 years.   During the course of my career, I have had the unique experience of leading a bag pipe band.  I have also made a special emphasis on my studies in Latin percussion due to my background in Salsa music. The biggest challenge in the beginning is learning about you as a student and how you learn. Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! Solo and ensemble pieces are introduced as the student becomes more proficient and various performing opportunities begin to present themselves. Read More

For voice I create my own custon lesson plans and use a variety of materials. Students will work on a great variety of repetorie from pop to renaissance. Students are encourgaed to learn to read music, with a great emphasis placed upon practical music theory. I aim to develop intellegent musical artists, foscuing upon intrepretation, critical thinking, historical considerations and creativity. For piano I general use the Faber and Faber method books unless I feel that a particular method would better benefit a specific student. Read More
