As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. The voice is not something we can see or touch, so I often joke that singing is about learning Jedi mind tricks that help us achieve a healthy technique. I like to incorporate theory/musicianship and some piano into my lessons to create a well rounded understanding of singing as a musician. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. I have used many of the pedagogy books, and I know how to find best curriculum for getting students to where they need to be technically and musically.
