Honesty is key: losing interest or feeling disheartened about your playing is sometimes part of the journey, and I want to remain as open as possible so that my students can feel relaxed and able to talk to me honestly about how their practicing is going. I value my students' enjoyment of our lessons, and I try to incorporate concepts that they will look forward to learning. I am passionate about all aspects of music, including music composition, theory, and history, and I include these important subjects in my instruction. I believe that anyone has the potential to be a talented musician, regardless of age, abilities, or former experience. I have helped 5 year old students with ADHD learn to focus during instruction, and I have helped students in their 40s learn a skill they never had a chance to learn as children. Read More

My teaching style depends upon the student! I love reaching set goals, and I verbally check in to take the students feelings, thoughts, and playing into account. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well. I prepare the student to be adaptable, and to use the skills as effectively in practice as in performance and lessons. Read More
