Instruments: Piano, Violin, Cello
When i start a beginner student, i like to use either Essential Elements or Suzuki for violin and cello. For piano, i like to use the Faber method books. As the student progresses with either instrument, I try to encourage them to continue with scales and to move up in their playing abilities and music reading. I try to mix it up for my students and ask them what they like to play just to keep them interested. Read More

Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. My goals as a teacher are to 1) bring students to the highest level of technical ability they are able to attain, and 2) develop in the student the highest level of musicianship possible through theory and ear training. My goal as a teacher not to make a professional musician from every student, but to introduce them to a great wold of music and make them fall in love with it. I love Mrs. Suzuki's quote:"Every child can".Yes, every student can learn to play an instrument at his or her own pace. But to do so they need to understand the importance of every day practice.I always encourage my students to participate in recitals and concerts, as this is a real opportunity to witness their progress. I started teaching in 1991 after graduating with a degree in Music History. I also gained training at that time as a Suzuki Teacher books 1 to 4. As I grew as a teacher I learned that to reach students I had to mold to their way of learning, so I now don't use one particular method. I also spent 9 months in Ireland playing in sessions with the Irish, and going to the University of Limerick. Read More
