For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. My teaching method is based on Ivan Galamian and Dorothy Delay's teaching styles and tailoring it to the student's needs. For beginning to intermediate students, I focus my teaching on fundamental basics and techniques, tailoring the exercises and etudes based on the repertoire of each student. With more advanced students, I shift the emphasis towards music-making (color, character, pacing, phrasing), with a focus on efficient and effective combinations of sounding point, bow speeds, bow distribution and vibrato. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities.
