Learning isn't a photocopy process which means a lot of the learning process is a responsibility of the student. I view my job as a teacher is to 1) make sure the student isn't getting overwhelmed, 2) hold the student accountable for their learning, and 3) guiding students through experiences that will facilitate their learning. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for violin students and piano adventures for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. During the lessons, I'll also let them come up with their own music or I'll play a duet with students. That way they're not only learning the instruments as well as being creative. Read More
