When starting with a young beginner student, I typically start with the beginning Suzuki Method books or Essential Elements books. I will also work on school repertoire if applicable. Once they have advanced past the level of the Suzuki books, I will begin to introduce solo works appropriate for their level and desire. As the student progresses with either instrument, I try to encourage them to continue with scales and to move up in their playing abilities and music reading. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well. My passion for teaching began in 2010 as a teaching assistant, teaching beginning music group lessons for first to third graders. Since then, I have been giving private lessons both in person and via online platforms. As a doctoral candidate, I am currently serving as a teaching assistant and instructing private technique lessons for college level students. I believe that having the proper training on technique is essential, as it is one of the most effective way to express and enlarge students musical ideas and interpretation. Read More

For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book.
