My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. Once we have the basics down, I like the student to tell me what he/she would enjoy playing, and I'll do my best to incorporate that, or something similar to that.  Also, I prefer that the student have access to a real piano rather than a keyboard. William's passion for music began at a young age, and he began studying with his father at just five years old, who taught him the lessons he learned from Charles "Charley" Wilcoxon. He then went on to study with Phil Shipley, the Principal percussionist with the Columbus Orchestra, among others. When I started college, I continued to teach flute lessons and I then began teach saxophone lessons as well. I normally start out with the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures methods books for the piano students. This includes a lesson book and a theory book. The lesson book will teach the student the physical skill of playing piano by presenting them with leveled songs to learn. The theory book will focus more on the mechanics of music and playing and require some written work.
